Lighting for Koi
The Japanese colored carp (Nishikigoi) popularly called koi carp has many enthusiasts worldwide. Also, in our country, Netherlands, you will find many koi hobbyists. Outside the keeping of koi in their pond, many of these hobbyists have a growth/quarantine tank in which they grow smaller fish in the winter months.
However, by keeping these fish in often dark rooms and the lack of sufficient daylight, the colors fade. With the help of artificial light, one tries to limit the decline in colors. Various methods are circulating, from daylight fluorescent tubes to high CRI lamps. However, the golden egg has not yet been found.
Illumination Koi Carps
Currently we are doing research on the proper lighting for koi. The basis of this research comes from literature stemming from various institutes. These universities have done research into the effects of light on fish. We are now testing various light compositions that should ensure that the light is specifically good for koi and that the deterioration of the colors is minimal.
Together with a professional party we are testing different light colors and types based on these scientific articles. We want to prove that the discoloration of the fish with artificial light can be prevented.
The development of the light fixture that keeps the fish in good condition is currently in full swing. We expect to be able to present this in early 2022. We will do this through various trade journals and forums.
